Elin - (1st Soprano) Elin draws from her opera, classical, and studio experience to create a virtuosic lead sound. Her eclectic arrangements complement Gary's giving the group freedom to explore many musical genres. Cindy - (2nd Soprano) Not only does she have an amazing solo voice, Cindy's extensive jazz and pop background give the women a seamless blend that makes your ears smile. An educator and true musician, she always surprises you with new vocal colors. Amy - (Alto) Amy is the creamy center to Sixth Wave's oreo. Her musicality and neurotic attention to detail make her the glue that holds the group together in every way. She's recently stepped into the arranging fold, adding another voice to the group sound. Gerald - (Tenor) Gerald is the most recent addition to the group. Don't let his shyness fool you. If you're not careful he'll sneak up on you with more than just a beautiful ballad. A true tenor, his talent is augmented by his achievements as a pianist and songwriter. Gary - (Baritone, vocal percussionist) Not only are his arrangements sung all over the world, Gary pens charts that are as important to an a cappella group as a great screenplay is to a film. He was born scatting and has one of the most unique solo voices around. Eric - (Bass) The foundation of an a cappella group. He swings, he funks, he gives you any feel you need. Coming from an instrumental background, this truly versatile voice will stretch and bend until you've forgotten it's the same person. It all began back in... well, not the Dark Ages, but a few years ago. Gary and Elin decided to start an a cappella group for their mutual musical satisfaction. Invitations to their favorite singers resulted in about 12 musicians (including Amy) who started the group Blue Starfish. Rapid member attrition and changes in personnel brought about the next incarnation, Heard of Cats. Finally, the vocal gods smiled on the three original members by introducing them to Cindy and Eric in April, 1999. Sixth Wave was complete with the addition of Gerald in May 2000. Their first goal at that point was to sing in the National Harmony Sweepstakes, which was accomplished in 2001 (and they won, much to their surprise and delight!). Their second goal of recording their first CD was accomplished that same year. Their schedule since the release of their first CD has been a busy one. They've performed concerts with many of the luminaries of the a cappella world, including The Bobs, Rockapella, The Swingle Singers, m-pact, Perfect Gentlemen, and Inner Voices. In October 2003, they performed at the star-studded gala opening of the dazzling Walt Disney Concert Hall.
They've released their second CD, It Will Come To You. It contains collaborations with Gabriel Mann, Joe Bob Finetti, and Michelle Weir, as well as recordings of their first three original tunes. Visit their website for more information : www.sixthwave.com |
